Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is the common form of arthritis, affecting millions of patients worldwide. Osteoarthritis changes occurs when the protective cartilage at the ends of the bones is worn down over time. Symptoms include pain, swelling, stiffness and reduced joint mobility. Symptoms typically develop slowly and gets worse over time, including joint stiffness, primarily noticed upon awakening or after being inactive, and pain that may intensify during or after movement. While the exact etiology of osteoarthritis is unknown, factors such as aging, joint injury, obesity, and genetics play a role in its development. There’s no cure for osteoarthritis, but treatment can help manage symptoms and may include a combination of physical therapy, exercise, weight management, pain relief medications, and, in some cases, joint replacement surgery. Lifestyle changes, including regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight, are crucial in managing osteoarthritis and improving joint function.
