Freezing of Gait
Freezing of Gait (FoG) is associated with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. It is a temporary inability to move forward as if the feet are glued to the ground. This phenomenon typically occurs when initiating movement, turning, or navigating tight spaces. Freezing of Gait (FoG) affects mobility and increases the risk of falls and related injuries associated with it, significantly impacting the quality of life of those affected. The exact cause of Freezing of Gait (FoG) is complex and thought to involve multiple brain areas responsible for motor control and coordination. Current management strategies include pharmacological treatments, physical therapy, and cueing techniques, such as rhythmic auditory or visual stimuli, to help overcome these freezing episodes. Ongoing research continues to explore more effective interventions and the underlying mechanisms of this challenging condition.
