Diabetes Treatment
The treatment of diabetes depends on the type. Diabetes mellitus management typically involves a combination of lifestyle modifications and medication. Type 1 diabetes requires lifelong insulin treatment, as the body doesn’t produce insulin. This can be administered through injections or an insulin pump. Type 2 diabetes treatment often starts with oral medications to improve insulin sensitivity or increase insulin secretion and may eventually require insulin therapy as the disease progresses. Monitoring blood glucose levels is essential for both types. In contrast, diabetes insipidus, characterized by the kidneys’ inability to conserve water, is treated with synthetic hormone therapy and specific lifestyle changes to regulate water balance in the body. The overarching goal of diabetes mellitus treatment is to manage blood sugar levels within a target range and prevent complications.
