ECG

An ECG or electrocardiogram is a medical diagnostic test that records the heart’s electrical activity. This non-invasive procedure involves placing small electrodes on the patient’s skin in specific areas around the chest, arms, and legs. As the heart beats, it generates electrical impulses that travel through the heart muscle. The ECG machine captures these impulses and translates them into a graph, displayed as a line tracing on paper or digitally. This trace shows the timing and strength of each heartbeat, providing crucial information about the heart’s rhythm, rate, and electrical conduction. Doctors use ECGs to diagnose a range of heart-related conditions, such as arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, and myocardial infarction (heart attack). The test is quick, painless, and widely used in outpatient and emergency settings.
