Fractures
Fractures are commonly known as broken bones. These occur when a bone is subjected to a force greater than it can absorb. They can range from minor cracks to complete breaks and vary significantly in severity, depending on the force that caused the break and the bone affected. Symptoms of a fracture may include swelling, deformity, bruising, and pain at the site of the fracture. Some fractures may also impair the function of the affected limb or body part. Diagnosing a fracture involves clinical evaluation and imaging tests, such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs. Treatment depends on the fracture’s location, type, and severity and can range from casting or splinting to immobilize the bone to surgical intervention to realign and secure the bone fragments. Healing time varies, with minor fractures healing in a few weeks, while more severe fractures may take months to recover fully. Proper management is crucial to ensure the bone heals correctly and to restore function to the affected area.

Development of thin-film biomaterials using nanofibres to be used as scaffolding for bone regeneration
In future, it may be possible to use nanofibres to improve the attachment of bone implants, or the fibres may be used directly to scaffold bone regeneration. This would aid the healing of fractures and may enable…
