A Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) is a research method used in genetics to find genetic variations associated with specific diseases or traits. This process involves analyzing the genetic makeup of many individuals, typically thousands or even hundreds of thousands. This type of study aims to identify genetic markers that occur more frequently in people with a specific trait or disease than those without. Researchers can accomplish this by comparing participants’ DNA with and without the particular trait or disease. This technique helps to identify genetic variations that may contribute to the risk of developing that condition.
