Mounjaro
Mounjaro is a brand name for the drug tirzepatide, a novel medication used in treating type 2 diabetes produced and distributed by Eli Lilly. It belongs to a unique class of drugs that combines the actions of GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptor agonists. This dual mechanism of action allows Mounjaro to effectively lower blood glucose levels by enhancing insulin secretion, reducing glucagon production, and slowing gastric emptying. Additionally, it has been shown to aid in weight loss. Mounjaro is administered through subcutaneous injections.
