Pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer occurs in tissues of the pancreas. The pancreatic organ plays a vital role in digestion by producing digestive enzymes to help break down foods. Pancrease also produces hormones, including insulin, that help manage blood sugar levels. Pancreatic cancer is known for its aggressive nature. It is also difficult to diagnose in its early stages because symptoms often do not appear until the cancer is advanced. Symptoms and signs of pancreatic cancer include abdominal pain, weight loss, jaundice, and loss of appetite. The exact etiology of pancreatic cancer is still largely unknown, but risk factors include smoking, chronic pancreatitis, diabetes, and certain hereditary conditions. Treatment for pancreatic cancer include various modalities like surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Despite advances in treatment, this cancer has one of the lowest survival rate, highlighting the importance of early detection and need for development of more effective treatment strategies.
