Heart failure
Heart failure is a chronic heart condition where the cardiac muscle is unable to pump blood efficiently to meet the body’s requirements. This inefficiency can result from conditions that weaken the cardiac muscle, such as coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction, or those that cause stiffening of the heart muscles, like hypertension and heart valve diseases. Symptoms of heart failure commonly include breathlessness, chronic coughing or wheezing, fatigue, edema (swelling) in the lower extremities, and irregular heartbeat. Treatment strategies focus on managing symptoms and slowing disease progression, often involving lifestyle changes, medications, and, in severe cases, surgical interventions like heart transplants. Managing heart failure is critical as it can significantly impact quality of life and survival rates.
