T cells are a crucial type of white blood cell that play a central role in the body’s immune system and adaptive immune response. T cells originates from bone marrow. They mature in the thymus, which is how they derive their name. T cells are identified by their T-cell receptor. THis enables them to recognize and bind to specific antigens presented by other cells.There are different types of T cells, each with a unique function: Helper T cells aid in activating other immune cells, Cytotoxic T cells directly attack infected or cancerous cells, and Regulatory T cells help modulate the immune response to avoid attacking the body’s own tissues. Through these mechanisms, T cells can destroy infected cells, orchestrate and regulate immune responses, and play a pivotal role in fighting infections and in the immune surveillance against cancer.
